here are two versions of a piece that i completed recently for stephanie glaros at the utne reader. i really enjoyed the top version with the colorful glasses....really had the wrong feel for the assn though. so we ultimately went with the version below. fun to see how much changes like that can really have an enormous impact on the overall feel of a piece!

just dug this piece out of the archive. a couple of friends got married almost two years ago and i did this painting for them as a gift. they were both so much fun to paint!

someone came to me recently inquiring about any work i might have created out of love, something created as a gift for example. frighteningly i realized how lacking i was in that dept....almost everything i create has some sort of commercial imcentive behind it...i remembered a plan that my good friend ernest & i had been concocting for god knows how long--to create special works of art for one another (because i love his work sooooo much and want a piece for my very own)....but we're both busy & easily sidetracked.....plan went on the backburner. so! i gotta say. finally sitting down and granting myself the time & focus to create this painting for ernest felt great. he is a great friend and an infinite inspiration to me. that said...i hope he likes it! when ernest finshes up on his end, i'll be sure to post that piece as well. ooooh, i can't wait. to tide the rest of you over, and show you what all the fuss is really all about, here's a link to my buddy ernest.

holiday mailer?

so i just finished this piece up with the hope that it might become some sort of holiday/winter mailer. thoughts? good image/bad image for a promo?

**ps. i'm going for it. i've also placed a small order of these cards which are blank on the inside (they are folded) which i will be selling in my store for $4 a pop. they should be arriving on monday so drop me a line if you'd like one!

the stranger: the levels of greatness a fiction writer can achieve in america

just finished this up for the stranger. the deadline was less than a day for this one so i had to turn to some alternate methods in order to get it done on time. the faces were done digitally instead of being painted as they usually are. i thought i would share the piece before and after i added the portraits. i think it's kinda fun either way. i also wanted to share this piece since i think it was a bit of a challenge for me in that there's a whole lot more going on in this piece than i usually deal with. i enjoyed it a lot and would love to begin doing more work along that line.

the ny times week in review!

this was one of those fun assignments that i sit around waiting for all year. such a fun assignment and the art director aviva michaelov was such a pleasure to work with. the story was about elderly love and how it differs so greatly from all we know about "young" love. elderly people tend to care more about the other persons happiness as opposed to their own. the basis for this was the story about sandra day o'connor and her husband, an alzheimers patient who has himself fallen in love with another alzheimers patient. look for it on the newstands today!
